Inside the Cape Evans hut things have been rearranged by museum curators so that the hut looks something like it would have looked after the winter over party left. They were in a hurry to leave and left many items that may otherwise have been taken along. This is a natural light shot. The warm lighting in the foreground comes from light reflected off the wooden floor of the hut. The harsher light in the back of the hut was reflected off a snow drift just outside the window (the drift had to be shoveled out a bit to open the window enough to let any light in). Flash pictures don't work very well in a situation like this because the flash will overexpose the foreground and underexpose the background.
