At the
Aransas National Wildlife Refuge we also saw an
armadillo. Quote from that site: "Armadillos have been kept as pets... They are very difficult to domesticate and it is not generally suggested. In Maine, it is illegal to own an armadillo." From
Wikipedia's armadillo article: "The Nine-banded Armadillo also serves science through its unusual reproductive system, in which four genetically identical quadruplets are born in each litter. Because they are always genetically identical, the group of four young provides a good subject for scientific, behavioral or medical tests that need consistent biological and genetic makeup in the test subjects." From my own personal observation: "They have hairy armpits."
