St Lucia is a very hilly place. It is a volcanic island that sits on the boundary of the Carribean and Atlantic plates. There has been significant volcanism in the recent past, geologically speaking, and erosion takes its time, so while there are some level playing fields, most of the flat land is in agriculture or covered in jungle. The wide stretch of Vigie Beach provides as good a place to play cricket as any.
